Pros:

Best SharePoint - and SharePoint Hosting knowledge in the industry

Cons:

slightly pricey, but you get what you pay for.

Other Thoughts:

Just wanted to share my experience with the SharePoint technical folks at Fpweb.net. Specifically I'd like to praise Andy Milsark. Andy was the technical lead for a migration effort moving from an older virtual system to a dedicated MOSS hosting environment. We had several customizations to move and Andy provided a guiding hand along each step of the way. He went the extra mile to ensure that any issues were rapidly resolved and the migration process didn't miss a beat. Thanks again to Andy and the rest of the great folks at Fpweb.net!

Pros:

On the leading edge of the SharePoint industry - both in hosting knowledge, and in knowledge of the application. Extremely fast network.

Cons:

Slightly more expensive than others, but... you get what you pay for.

Other Thoughts:

We phoned Microsoft directly to vent our frustrations with our current WSS site and they determined that much of the problem was our current hosting company's implementation of the site. We asked them for 10 MOSS references whom we could contact. Eight of the ten responded and all of them are hosted by Fpweb.net. So it was not hard to choose where to host our new SharePoint Server. With the kind correspondence and the immediate response of your knowledgable support staff, I can see we made the right choice.

Pros:

They have good marketing.

Cons:

Poor technical implementation. Backups are server level, not site level. If there is a problem with the server, you are out of luck.

Other Thoughts:

We had similar bad experiences. Searching never worked despite repeated assurances over several months that this would be fixed. Then at one point our url actually pointed to someone else's website - a little league team! That took weeks and several contacts to get fixed. Then the server crashed. We were told, sorry, backups were kept only 1 week, and all the backups were corrupted due to problem on server. So much time and effort had been invested in setting up the site - all gone. BEWARE!

Pros:

No real pros at this point - mediocre service AT BEST and "we don't give a crap" attitude is what you'll find here.

Cons:

"We don't care but we'll give you lots of lip service and Bull$h!t" is FPweb's motto. We had basic tech support requests open literally for MONTHS. Example - their servers would not index our sites and therefore SharePoint search was disabled.

Other Thoughts:

When Kirk Daus (sp) was at FP - it was the best hosting service in the US. Kirk was certified by Microsoft and knew SP inside and out. He lived ate and breathed SharePoint, which gave me a lot of confidence about FP Web. Well... hHe took a job directly with Microsoft and the service has slowly slid in to the toilet. We had a dedicated virtual server and relied on our SP sites there for our interaction with clients. Thousands of documents meant "SEARCH" was a top priority. Well... gee too bad so sad... we don't know how to set up indexing, so search doesn't work on your server.. but WE PROMISE YOU IT WILL BE FIXED. Six months and a pile of Bull$h!t later... still not fixed... still not indexing... still NO SEARCH. So we use Google to search our SharePoint site.

These guys have the potential to be really good - too bad they squander that potential.
